Frequently Asked Questions

This is a list of questions commonly asked by our clients. Please feel free to email us at info@songlaw.ca if you have any further concerns.

Can I get a consultation over the Phone?

While we understand your concerns about convenience and cost, we are unable to provide legal advice before you formally retain us as your lawyer. There are liability issues involved, and we must follow the intake procedure required by the Law Society of Alberta before we can offer formal legal advice. However, we can explore some options over the phone to help you understand your situation better.

Our firm charges either a flat fee or an hourly rate, depending on the nature of the matter. As a rule of thumb, solicitor work (most transactions) is usually charged at a flat fee, while barrister work (contested or litigation-related matters) is more likely to be charged at an hourly rate. We will discuss the appropriate fee structure with you during the initial consultation.

Absolutely. In Alberta, clients are free to end the solicitor-client relationship with a lawyer at any time they wish.
